Wedding Cake - The Sweetest marital Relationship Ceremony
Fortunately for some, unfortunately for others, not all wedding speeches from the Father of the Bride are delivered by Steve Martin or Spenser Tracey. Although why not try here a movie star in the traditional sense, every Father of the Bride is as handsome as George Clooney, clever as Jay Leno and sophisticated as Cary Grant. At least to the Bride. In reality, he make look like Porky Pig and dress like Rodney Dangerfield. But he is his daughter's number one macho man and she always waits with anticipation for what he is going to say.
It is not unusual for this speech to bring tears to everyone in attendance, including him. He will begin his oration by welcoming everyone to this very special occasion, including the parents of the Groom. Then he will take a leisurely stroll down memory lane giving highlights of his daughter's life from the time she was born to the woman she is today. He might relate the time he taught her to ice skate at the age of eight, and no matter how many times she fell down, she got right up and kept trying. Or maybe he taught her how to hold a bat so she could try out for the girls' softball team in high school. She may not have hit many home runs back then, but she is batting a thousand today.
Count on this speech lasting at least seven minutes. If the father is unusually shy or doesn't like to show his emotions, it can be quite short. She will understand. She has known him a lifetime. However, if he is a more loquacious fellow, he will use all the time he has been allotted, and then some. After all, he paid for this shindig and he's talking on his dime.
If he is Cary Grant or Rodney Dangerfield, George Clooney or Shrek, he is the most handsome man in attendance, with maybe the exception of the Groom. The Bride will hang on his every word. It should be mentioned here while the Bride is hanging on his words, that he should never make disparaging remarks about the Groom or his family. It is a universal fact that no man is ever good enough for any father's daughter. This belief may be rooted in history back to the time of the teepees and pyramids, no one knows for sure. The wedding reception is one time when the father will acknowledge that his very bright and intelligent daughter made a wise choice. She is known for wise choices; after all, she takes after him!
The Father of the Bride should also say a few congratulatory words to the Groom's parents on what a fine job they did raising the man who will father his grandchildren. He will complete his speech with a toast to the happy couple telling his daughter that she has never been as beautiful as she is today and how proud he is of her. He will leave the Bride and Groom with wishes for a happy future and maybe hope that their marriage will be just as successful as his (assuming he is still married to the Bride's mother).
