As a business coach and Internet Marketing specialist I hear this a lot from small and medium sized business owners. Initially they say it when I start working with them. Online Marketing Champaign Il success was not part of their marketing strategy. But why is it that they change their mind so soon? Why is it that I don't hear that statement after a short period of time ever again? Why is it they start to ask other questions like "What can Internet Marketing do for me as a small business?" Why is it that they aim for online business success?

Understandable they don't want to sell their products and services world wide. Many of them are local businesses. They might be a dentist, a lawyer, a music school owner or the owner of a small or medium sized shop or store. Some of them might provide services like conveyancing, massaging or alternative health services. Their customers and clients come from the suburb they are in or from the surrounding suburbs. Their market is not the whole county or the whole city they are living in.

Some of them have built their business slowly over time on word-of-mouth marketing. And we all know that a happy customer tells three other people but an unhappy customer tells many, many and many more. So you better do the right thing by your customers, if this is your only marketing strategy.

Therefore they ask in the beginning the legitimate question why they should be present on the Internet where the whole world can find them while their existing customers are not further away than 50 km.

What they don't know is that the Internet can connect them to the whole wide world as well as to their neighborhood. People in other countries search on the Internet and people in your neighborhood do this, too.

If your market is local you choose a domain name in your own country. The domain name is your address on the Internet for your website and starts often with "www". The end of the domain can give an indication for which country the domain name is relevant. ".com.au" is used for Australia. ".de" is used for Germany. ".co.nz" is used for New Zealand and ".co.uk" is used for Great Britain. ".com" initially was meant for the American market, but is also used worldwide. Recently ".us" was introduced to target specifically the Internet Market in America.

Internet marketing a business is effective weather your market is locally or globally. Searching the Internet is not only convenient, it also can be done after hours or in the middle of the night. With the Internet being available 24/7 the term "I google it" or "let's google it" is already part of our everyday vocabulary and searching the Internet for information has become a habit like brushing your teeth. Online business success does not depend on who your market is.

Not using Internet Marketing for your business makes you miss out on those "searchers". Your competition will thank you. People using the Internet are pretty savvy nowadays. They won't type in dentist, when they have a tooth ache and just moved to a new area or just found out that the dentist they used so far is on a holiday or booked for months. They will specify where they want that dentist to be. They understand that an American dentist is useless for them when they live in Australia and vice versa. They will add the suburb, the city or tick at least "local search" before they initiate the search. Local search restricts the results to web pages in the country, so that you don't have to travel overseas or cross the borders.

This works to your advantage as business owner. This creates online business success. That makes you unique amongst all the other competitors. This is your change to attract new customers and clients. And we all know what that means: more sales, more revenue and more holidays
